Report: US Treasury confirms using Forbes to compile Kremlin report

MOSCOW/WASHINGTON, Jan 31 (PRIME) -- The U.S. Department of Treasury used publicly available data including the Forbes magazine rating to compile its Kremlin Report, Bloomberg reported late Tuesday, citing a spokesperson for the authority.

The U.S. published the list on Tuesday early in the morning, including 114 politicians, with the entire Kremlin administration, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and all Russian ministers, and 96 businessmen with a wealth exceeding U.S. $1 billion. Media reported that the list of businessmen coincided with the Forbes rating.

The spokesperson told Bloomberg that the Forbes rating conforms to the methodology of the department’s report.

Russian Trade Representative to the U.S. Alexander Stadnik told PRIME that the list can be used in interests of the Russian economy. “We need to analyze the possible consequences of the compilation of the so-called Kremlin list presented by the U.S. Department of Treasury to the Congress, take necessary measures to cushion possible negative consequences and perhaps, even use it in our interests to develop the economy inside the country and extend integration relations.”

Stadnik also said that the publication of the document signals disagreements between the legislative and executive authorities in the U.S.
